Choosing the Best Wakeboards: Four Top Wakeboards Reviewed

best wakeboards reviewedWakeboarding is an exhilarating sport, but you’re going to need the best wakeboard for your own specific needs if you’re going to have a good time and get the most out of the sport possible. It is tough to choose a wakeboard if you are a beginner as knowing what the jargon is and what makes a good wakeboard can be tough. We have put together some wakeboard reviews to try and showcase the very best models for beginners, intermediates and experts alike.

Make no mistake, wakeboarding is tough, and getting used to staying upright and feeling comfortable on the board is the first step before you even think about tricks. You want to feel like you really are gliding along the water, and after buying your wakeboard you’ll quickly realise how you get comfortable with it, and how tough it would be to change wakeboards regularly. Much like a pool player gets used to his cues, you’ll likely get used to your wakeboard and its own specific features and characteristics. Making the correct choice right from the start puts you at a big advantage and can get you off on the right footing.

Things to Consider When Buying a Wakeboard:

Size. I would say this is the single biggest consideration if you plan to purchase a wakeboard. If you buy a wakeboard too small to support your weight, it will sink, and being able to do anything with it at all will be impossible. Buy one too big, it can weigh you down and make movement hard. The sizing of your wakeboard is crucial, and should be based on your own build including height and weight.

Style. There are a couple of different styles of wakeboarding. If you’ll be boarding with the same foot forward the whole time then something called a ‘single tip’ wakeboard will be perfect for you. Those who are into snowboarding or even skating might be more comfortable with a twin tip, which means the front feet are interchangeable and can allow for a bit more flexibility.

Reviews. Wakeboard reviews are crucial. Basically, you don’t want to buy something flimsy or shoddy and a look at the reviews here on or elsewhere on the internet (online retailers) gives you a good idea of how happy people are with their purchase and which brands are up to scratch. A little bit of reading before taking the plunge (no pun intended) can go a long way.

Continuous or Three Stage rockers. Basically, this is another term you’re likely to come across in your search, but continuous rockers are mainly for stability and will suit beginners down to the ground.

Other considerations come into play such as the shape of the board, which does vary from brand to brand and model to model, fins are also worth looking into but the main thing is to make sure they are well built, and the materials and build quality are vital, and vary as well as largely dictating the price.

You need to consider who you are buying the wakeboard for. Whether it will be used by a beginner, a child, someone who is big or someone who is petite, does it need to be used for jumping or tricks? There is no one individual best wakeboard, this is a ‘horses for courses’ situation, and what is best for one may not be for another.

Wakeboard Reviews

Now, time to look at some individual models and provide some info on the features of specific wakeboards! The good news is there are some amazing products on the market right now making shopping for one anything but a chore.

Hydroslide Black Widow Wakeboard

The Hydroslide Black Widow is an excellent wakeboard, designed for adults and relatively large at 56 inches. The lace up bindings are designed in order to keep you firmly in place. It has both front and rear fins which come with the product but require you to attach when you receive it. Most reviews of the Black Widow have talked about it as being not only a smooth and sturdy ride but as being excellently manufactured and likely to last years if kept in the right way. A quick browse at the Amazon reviews will help you to make your choice, but this is actually one of the cheaper models on the market and certainly doesn’t cost as much as some of the high end boards. The value for money combined with the amazingly smooth ride make this a good choice for beginners.

Body Glove Junior Wakeboard

Body glove are one of the best wakeboarding brands, with a couple of products in the market we wanted to take a look at their model for Juniors. It has secure, easy to adjust lace up bindings and performs extremely well. It isn’t necessarily designed for tricks and doing massive jumps but it is a great way to start learning and take to the water for the first times. It is wonderful for beginners and the 125lb limit makes it great for kids or small teens and adults. The performance of this wakeboard was hard to fault, with an exceptionally simple setup and use.

Hyperlite Wakeboard Machete Review

Now into a bit more of a ‘pro’ model, and one that deserves its place on the list of ‘best’ products in the field. It has an amazing record of being exceptionally well reviewed by those taking to the water. The core of the Hyperlite wakeboard is made out of a material called Bio2, which has been made by Dow chemicals, designed to be lightweight and flexible. This is the right weight for those who want to jump, feel the air and experience the full wakeboarding experience. The four fins are removable and provide even more flexibility. The three stage rocker also make this great for moving on the water. For beginners this may prove a bit of a challenge, but if you want a model that can perform with the most movement and a professional, lightweight feel, this may well be the one for you. Hyperlite are a brand name who make some excellent models of wakeboard and their bindings are also among the best, one set of which are included within this package. The bindings which are attached fit multiple sizes so you should be able to wear them no matter what your shoe size. This is also available in a couple of two different sizes, which one you buy will depend on your own size and build.

Full Throttle Aqua Extreme Wakeboard Kit

Another one of the top rated wakeboards we’ve found. The Full Throttle Aqua Extreme has a lot of exceptional reviews out there and most consumers seem to only have great things to say about it, and with good reason. This is the wakeboard for larger people to use. The guidelines are 155lb and up in terms of weight, meaning it is one of the biggest of its type. It doesn’t need to be bought just for the pure reason it is ‘big’ though, and this is a wonderful piece of kit.

Stability is a big plus point here, and though this isn’t what everyone wants, it is certainly good both for beginners and those of a larger build (even normal sized adults will often weigh above 155lbs). One review we found has talked about using this in spite of only being 135 lbs, so it can potentially be used by smaller folk too.

The reinforced fin holder means this is a strongly built and sturdy wakeboard. This sturdiness doesn’t mean that the Full Throttle Aqua Extreme Wakeboard is super heavy though and a very intelligent feather core material means that it does the best it can to stay lightweight in and of itself.

The branding may not be the top thing we’re judging boards on, but we do particularly like the way these products look, with an awesome, surfboard style painted design and the amazing Full Throttle logo on both the board and the bindings.

Wakeboarding is a sport which has quite a few different accessories. There are a lot of wakeboards out there, and they tend to each offer something different. There are accessories to purchase also! We’ve talked already about the bindings, and most of the products mentioned come with these included, however it is great to have the option to replace them with something to fit your feet better or provide more comfort. Of course, the rope is another huge part of wakeboarding, and you can spend some time looking for the best rope to put on your wakeboarding boat, they need to be comfortable on your hands as well as flexible and easy to attach.

Life jackets or life vests are an essential product, I cannot stress enough how important this is and how nobody should take to the water without wearing the appropriate safety gear. Finding a life vest for wakeboarding is relatively simple, safety should be the top priority, but they should also allow room for movement and not make you feel too much like a michelin man.

Some people also choose to wear helmets, which is definitely advisable if you’re going at pace on the water and certainly if you’re on a lake for instance where there may be other hazards.

As mentioned at the start, the right wakeboard for you depends on your own ability with a board, your build, age and more. The above models and brands are some of the most exceptional products available. Water sports are exhilarating and wakeboarding is a sport which has hugely grown in popularity. The products aren’t cheap, and once you’ve decided on a brand and got used to it then its hard to change, so making the correct choice by using reviews, and spending a little time looking beforehand can pay off big time. If you’re going to take the time and effort to learn to wakeboard and are looking to invest in a board, the products reviewed above all come with our recommendation depending on your needs.

The Best Tandem Kayaks Reviewed. Fishing and Kayaking in Pairs!

tandem kayak reviewKayaking is a recreation that is fun to do on your own, but even more fun with two people, so giving yourself the option with a tandem kayak with two seats makes sense. Of course, you can still use the kayak alone if you want to, so this way the choice is up to you. We’ve got the best tandem kayaks reviewed here for you on as we look to find the very best equipment for your needs.

Tandem Kayaks tend to cost a little more than a solo kayak, which is not exactly a surprise due to the fact it is bigger and takes more material to build, but they come with so many benefits, allowing you to take a beginner out on the water or for a couple of you to go out on a tandem kayak for fishing and have a day out on the lake.

Things to Consider When Buying a Tandem Kayak

Working out what criteria you are looking for is the first step to choosing a kayak of any description, whether you need a tandem kayak for fishing, racing or just for leisure activities. There are a lot of different things to consider, and what is the best choice for one may not be the best for another. We’ve listed below a lot of the features, considerations and information you need to think about when you are shopping for yours.

  • Weight. The options for weight are quite varied, especially as some are inflatable and some aren’t. The weight isn’t just to be considered because of transporting the kayak, but of course you’re going to have to paddle or row the boat, so you need to think about what you (and your kayak partner) are capable of.
  • Portability. Obviously this is tied with weight to an extent, but you also need to think about if you need something you can put on a roof rack (probably the best way to transport) or even deflate and stick in the back of your vehicle.
  • Control. This is largely down to whether the kayak has a rudder or not. Depending on what type of body of water you’re going out on, you need to consider how much control you need and how challenging the water will be.
  • Sit-in or Sit-on-Top. This is down to personal preference, and is down to the design of the kayak. It is more to do with what you will be more comfortable with than having a big impact on the performance of the kayak.
  • How many people! Tandem, of course, implies two people, but there are kayaks out there that have three or more spaces on them. Many tandem kayaks can easily be used by one person too if they are ballast. You must use the rear seat if this is what you plan to do, but being able to use it with a solo pilot is a big advantage and gives more flexibility.
  • Price. This is always going to be a consideration. There are models of inflatable kayak which are pretty cheap, there are models of non-inflatable products out there for under $500 which can do a good job, but at the top end of the market you’ll do well to find one under $1000.

Top Inflatable Tandem Kayaks

We definitely need to talk about inflatables. The top inflatable kayaks have a lot of plus points. Of course there are pros and cons, and you’re going to be sacrificing a lot of stability and sturdiness if you buy an inflatable on top of introducing the chance of puncture, but the chances are you will be saving a huge amount of money by opting for something to inflate rather than a rigid kayak. On top of the cash saving you’re introducing the element of portability which is great for those who don’t want a roof rack or just want life to be as easy as possible when you head to the lake, coast or river. The models reviewed below include some inflatable models to let you make your mind up on what might be the best for your needs (and budget of course).

Intex Explorer K2 Kayak Review

This is an inflatable tandem kayak, and it takes a lot of beating. This has an excellent reputation and definitely deserves its place on our list of the best. It comes with everything you need to get started, and is very affordable when compared to a lot of the other models on the market.

This is 123 inches long and has a capacity of 350 lbs, so make sure that those riding it are coming within the capacity to stay safe. It has a removable skeg which is designed to help with the stability and steering. It is bright yellow for high visibility and the material it is made out of mean that it is hard-wearing and tough to puncture. One of the main benefits of course is the portability, but it isn’t just about whether it is inflatable, it comes down to how easy it is to deflate and inflate. Nobody wants to be inflating for hours before you get started, and the Intex explorer doesn’t take long to get up and running.

Intex are a brand with a lot of history of making these type of products, and this is well and truly one of the best reviewed products on the market. A quick look at the reviews and you will find a lot of people who are very happy having bought this kayak, with users speaking highly of the durability, ease of use and quality of the K2. The only reservation I have seen regularly is people discussing the removable skeg, though it has not been a problem on my model, many take a precaution of drilling a hole in it and running string through it to ensure it doesn’t fall out and get lost on the water, and if it should come loose then it will stay attached at least.

Lifetime 10 Foot Manta Tandem Kayak Review

Another one of the top selling kayaks out there here, the lifetime 10 foot tandem kayak is flexible, well made and exceptionally reviewed, but is it the right model for you?

As you can see from a quick look on Amazon or other online retailers, buying a kayak that isn’t inflatable is going to cost more, but if you’re serious about it, the benefits are clear to see.

  • Great for single use or tandem with a weight capacity of 500 pounds.
  • Comes complete with paddles and backrests for comfort.
  • Extremely lightweight considering the size and comes with handles to carry it around.
  • Has a five year limited warranty which shows the faith the manufacturer have in their product.
  • Seating designed to keep riders off the floor of the kayak.
  • Can even fit up to three people.
  • Has a cargo area making it a great tandem kayak for fishing and allowing you to carry items with you.
  • Tunnel Hull for stability and is ‘virtually impossible to tip’.

This is probably the best kayak for fishermen I’ve ever seen and even has a fishing pole holder, it is amazingly well thought out, and if you want something for you and a friend or two to head out on the water for some fishing or paddling, this is a model you must consider. The fact that it is so hard to tip also makes it very good for beginners or those who are a little less confident on the water. This is so well thought out that it even has a cup holder!

Easy to transport and of course to store, as well as being simple to use and amazing for beginners and experienced paddlers. It isn’t hard to see why this is in our list of the top models of tandem kayak, and there are lots of positive reviews from consumers to support our opinion! Is this the cheapest product you’ll ever buy? No, but with an amazing warranty from the manufacturer and the fact that it is so well built mean that it is likely to last you a long time and many trips out on the lakes, rivers and even on the sea.

Useful UH-TK181 12.5 foot Sit On Top Tandem Fishing Kayak Review

Well, this model from Useful is truly a treat. Of course, on any list of products, I want to recommend what is the best for the money, and this is a bit more of a pricey addition, but it is packed with features to justify its price tag, not to mention how incredibly well made the UH-TK181 Fishing Kayak is. Just a look at this kayak shows you what detail has been put into its manufacture.

  • Weighs just under 70lbs with a capacity of 450 lbs.
  • Has two light paddles and deluxe, very comfortable seats.
  • Comes with paddle rests and three sturdy, impressive rod holders.
  • Has a set of four carry handles, two bungee paddle parks and even has cargo so you can take all of your fishing kit (and even some lunch if you want).

This is another model which describes itself as almost impossible to tip, this is great if you’re new to kayaking but is also wonderful for fishing as of course your mind may be on other things! It doesn’t have to be used for fishing and is equally good for simply paddling. The storage compartments are watertight and the numerous attachments and additions are all well-made, well positioned and well thought out.

The Useful model certainly lives up to its name. Some of the features, the size and the price may be overkill for a lot of people, but for others this will be the very best of all, and there’s little denying that the UH-TK181 is superb.

We are in a ‘horses for courses’ situation here, of course. What is best for you depends on what you’re looking for in terms of features, how many people will be using it, how portable it is and all of the other features we’ve mentioned above. The models we’ve picked out and reviewed for you are all, in our opinion, both reliable and good value for money. If you have more thoughts and experiences with the products we’ve pointed out, leave us a comment below!

Examining the Best Towable Tubes – Reviews and Features

best-towableTowable tubes are a huge amount of fun! They’re an amazing way to enjoy yourself without having to learn too much about a sport or learn anything in the way of techniques to get going. Pretty much anyone can get on a good quality towable tube and have a load of fun in the water. This article is designed to explore the best towable tubes available and review individual models of tube.

Not everyone who wants to chill out on the water is keen to try skiing or boarding, and thats where products like this are so useful. Towable tubes can attach easily onto the back of a boat or other sea vehicle and can sometimes carry two or three people at a time. Whats more, multiple tubes can be attached at one time so you can go out in groups and have a good time flying across the water with minimal effort and maximum fun! Bear in mind that Tubing goes by multiple names such as towing, Toobing, bumper tubing and more, it generally all means the same thing!

Tubing is one of the best things to do as a group. If you’re wanting to ski on the water, or you’re looking at other products such as kneeboards or wakeboards, you’re going to be on your own and if you want a go, you’ll probably have to wait your turn! With tubes, you can take a group out, making them great for youngsters to all go out on the water together. This is one of the qualities of towable tubes which is pretty unique to watersport products.

A common theme for towable tubes is to be able to tow two people or three people at once, but some can handle four or even up to six people. A couple of those on a boat and you’ve got a huge amount of people you can take out at once, picture you and a group of friends flying over the water at speed then you will understand why the best towable tubes have become so popular.

What to Look For in a Towable Tube

What makes the best option for you is largely dependent on what you need the tubes to be able to do. There are a few different factors to consider to ensure you get the model that suits you and your family.

  • Size – is it going to be used for children mainly or adults? What size are you going to need, or do you need multiple sizes of towable tubes to suit multiple age groups?
  • Build Quality – this is pretty universal, you need something that is pretty good quality and isn’t going to puncture easily. For any inflatable product, punctures can be a nightmare. There’s nothing worse than taking your tube out on the water for the first time and it getting a puncture, and buying something good quality will minimize the chances of this happening. Many can be fixed and even come with kits to repair them, but it is still a pain when you want to be out on the water.
  • Seats and comfort – this is definitely worth considering if you’re more timid on the water or are taking people out who aren’t used to being on the water, having a seat that they can comfortably sit down on and feel secure can be a great help.
  • Make sure you have a good quality pump. Pumps are going to do a lot of the work, and a low quality pump will take a long time, or may not even do the job at all. High capacity pumps don’t have to be a big investment but can save you a lot of time and hassle. Some kits even come with their own pump.

Kids or Adults

This is a big decision to make! The best towable tubes for kids may not be the same as the ones for adults, they come in varying sizes based on who will be using it and some of the models are designed specifically for children to be taking out on the water. Some of the top models are even suitable for all ages.

Cost of Towables

The phrase ‘you get what you pay for’ springs to mind here. If you want a budget, cheaper towable tube then it may do a job for a while and be enough to have some fun, but it probably won’t last a long time. The reality is that the most highly reviewed Towable tubes are the ones which are a bit more expensive. You can get some models under $100 and some are even under $50 but

So there we have it. Some criteria for the towable tubes before you decide which to buy. Next up we’ve put together some of the reviews of different models of towables.

AIRHEAD AHM2-2 Mach 2 Towable Review

Airhead are one of the top manufacturers of Towables. This is an exceptional model and though it is far from being the cheapest, there is little denying it is one of the top models on the market. Reviews of the product on amazon and elsewhere back up the fact that most people who have purchased the AHM2-2 are very happy with the features it offers.

One of the key selling points is the fact that it works for both kids and adults, so you don’t have to buy this for a specific age group.

This towable has clearly been designed with comfort in mind, it has an inflated seat to keep your bum comfortable, has four handles (with knuckle guards to try and prevent any soreness on your knuckles) which will help keep you secure in your seat. This all adds up to this being an excellent, secure model which is perfect for beginners and more advanced users alike.

If two seats in your towable tube is enough for you, this Airhead model is definitely worth your consideration, the double stitched nylon seam helps to aid the quality and this isn’t a model which will puncture easily. As well as being very well made, this is a huge amount of fun, and easy to hold onto if you’re new to being towed around.

SPORTSSTUFF 53-2223 Super Mable Towable

A different brand this time, but still really good quality. Airhead make a huge amount of the products in this niche, but Sports stuff aren’t to be ignored either and make some very good towable tubes. The Super Mable makes the list of the best for a few reasons:

  • It is super fast to inflate and deflate, just stick it in the back of the car or truck and it is ready to go in minutes once you reach the beach, lake or river.
  • The back rest is pretty unique and adds another layer of stability and comfort, great for kids and those new to being towed behind a boat.
  • Handles! Lots and lots of handles, also great for staying stable through your ride, even when things get fast.
  • Room for three people with foam padded seating so you don’t get sore, even if you spend ages out on the water.
  • Weight limit of 510 lbs for towing.

This is a superb towable for all of the family, great for kids and adults. In all honesty, it feels like you’re in a fairground ride, and you feel pretty strapped in due to the walls at the back and sides. Many have earmarked this as the most comfortable and most secure tube currently on the market, and for youngsters or beginners this is excellent.

The reviews for the products speak for it. Huge amounts of positive reviews talk about how fun, easy and comfortable the Super Mable is! We definitely recommend it.

SPORTSSTUFF 53-1780 Chariot Warbird 2 Towable

Now this is what we’re talking about. The Chariot Warbird, also from SportsStuff is a wonderful piece of kit, very unique and undeniably one of the best tow tubes on the market. As the photos of the product show, this can be used in different ways, you can sit on your bottom and let it tow you as normal, or kneel on it and have it towed from the other end.

As well as the extremely cool, eye-catching design, this is an incredibly sturdy and well made piece of kit, which resists punctures and is good for even those going on slightly rougher waters.

The USP of this is of course the multiple riding positions, you can use it in multiple ways, which is not something we can say about may of the products which consider themselves rivals. Once again, it isn’t the cheapest product out there, but it is well made, and in our opinion excellent value for money. You’ll have a huge amount of fun out on the water with the Chariot Warbird 2!

As well as this, it is a really easy product to use, it inflates and deflates quickly and simply, plus it is easy to adjust the position and where it is attached to the boat with a heavy duty but easy to use connection kit to hook it up.

Rave Razor 2-Rider Towable

I wanted to include a more ‘budget friendly’ option on the list. The prices are subject to change, of course, but at the time of writing this is cheaper than many of its alternatives, making it great for those on a budget. It is sturdy and well-reviewed, although it may not be too much to write home about. It is sturdy and has comfortable grip handles with knuckle guards. This is better for those who are comfortable gliding along the water as it requires plenty of holding on, it isn’t backed or seated like the other models we’ve reviewed above. Still, for the money, this is good value and has a lot of positives, as well as being sturdy, easy to transport and easy to tow.

Of course you should always be safety conscious when you’re using products like this and life jackets are always a must for any watersports or hobbies and activities involving water. Due to new innovations, these products are always changing, but the models above are such excellent fun and offer a huge amount of awesome features, great for children and adults alike and providing hours of fun on boating trips! Putting a little extra time in to buy the best and do some research before you impulse buy something can pay dividends in the long run!

Reviewing the Best Snorkel Gear – Fins, Snorkels and Masks!

the best snorkel gearIt is easy to see why snorkelling is such a popular pastime these days. People all over the world are taking to the seas to head underwater and see what there is to offer. Snorkelling gives you a chance to see the world as never before, but to do so you need the best snorkel gear. This article is designed to walk you through what you need to start snorkelling as well as reviewing some of the top equipment to ensure you’re happy with the purchases you make before you head on your trip.

Snorkelling is popular in Europe, South America, Asia, North America and of course Australia…pretty much anywhere where there is anything to see underwater, it is worthwhile, you can spot everything from pretty fish to amazing turtles and other marine life. Whether you’re in the great barrier reef or one of the lesser known diving or scuba diving destinations, you need to get the right equipment sorted out for your trip.

What Makes Good Quality Snorkel Equipment?

So, what are we looking for when it comes to snorkel gear? What are the criteria for something you’re going to get a lot of use out of, and be happy with the money you’ve parted with when purchasing it?

First up, the snorkel mask. If your mask doesn’t fit snugly and properly on the face it will cause a lot of condensation, making it really hard to see. This won’t be immediately evident as you should bear in mind that all new masks have a tendency to get a bit foggy due to the way they have been made. Toothpaste applied to the mask usually helps. When the mask is on and has been used for a little while (try it out of the water first) it should be comfy and not filling with steam that makes it hard for you to see what is in front of you.

At a glance, it may seem like a snorkel itself is a really basic piece of kit, but getting it right can be really tough. The main thing to think about here is the comfort of the mouthpiece. It should fit neatly into your mouth and your teeth should be able to rest on it rather than biting it, biting down can be tough, can damage your teeth and make your mouth very sore and tired, so getting the right snorkel is vital. The best snorkels come in different varieties, and may be dry or moist around the mouth. We recommend dry for beginners, but the choice is up to you and the models reviewed below will help make your choice.

Fins. The fins are a lot smaller than they once were. Again, comfort is an issue, you want something that fits nicely around the feet without being painful, but that stays on at the same time. The sizings on the product are usually pretty accurate and it is a bit like buying shoes. The best snorkel fins will also allow you to move freely and maneuver within the water without difficulty.

Build quality is a big consideration when you are choosing your snorkel and other gear. If you buy something cheap and flimsy you can easily end up with leaks, straps that don’t keep it tight to your face and very uncomfortable equipment. Padded straps provide the most comfort possible. Vision is vital throughout the whole process so you should only even be considering snorkels that keep your vision clear the whole time and allow you to see where you’re going, plus, the whole point is to be able to see the amazing wildlife!

Some of the features are a little less simple to understand, especially for beginners, but we’ve got some info on the terms you might come across to try and demystify them!

  • Purge valves – purge valves are designed to help the water drain out and assist getting rid of water that gets into the top of the snorkel.
  • Flexible barrels – these are flexible sections that are attached to the barrel near the mouthpiece, it is designed to be a more comfortable and flexible fit.
  • Rotating mouthpiece – this is pretty self explanatory, and can have a big impact on the tiredness you’ll feel in your jaw as you are using for an extended period of time.

The perfect snorkel gear for you is subjective, and it is up to you to work out which combination of features you need, and how much you are willing to spend. Which leads me nicely to the next point:

Cost of Snorkel Gear

How much does snorkel equipment cost? There isn’t one figure that can be applied here. Generally speaking, a lot of snorkel gear and kits to get going will cost under $100, which is pretty reasonable assuming you get long term use out of them. There is a higher end of the market with even more professional gear and you can pay a premium for these. The cheap end of the market can see you spending under $50 to kit yourself out with enough snorkel gear. Of course, whether you are buying things separately or buying them together in a snorkel kit will have an impact

Well made snorkel gear is easier to spot from poor quality models. The online age of transparency means that snorkel reviews are pretty easy to come by, and we’ve summarized some options for purchase below.

Phantom Aquatics Adult Speed Sport Mask Fin Snorkel Set

The Phantom Aquatics Snorkel set provides something of a complete solution for getting started in the world of snorkelling. It has small but effective fins which help you soar through the water. There are different sizes, but the fins are adjustable so you can get the perfect fit. These are very lightweight and people who have purchased them have reported them being exceptional value for money, especially when you consider the daily rental rates of snorkels when you go on holiday.

The snorkel set is really easy to put on and is good at staying dry in your mouth. An immense amount of positive reviews elsewhere on the internet, stating that the silicone is of an excellent quality, the mask is comfortable and the set is great for beginners and more advanced users.

U.S. Divers Adult Cozumel Mask/Seabreeze II Snorkel, Proflex Fins and Gearbag Review

This offering from US Divers is another kit which provides both mask and snorkel along with the fins. It is also immensely well reviewed and a look at the consumer reviews online will show you how much people think of the product.

  • Features a two window mask for maximum visibility
  • Has three way adjustable buckles for flexibility and to adjust to your own personal
  • Splash top with Hydro-Adhesion technology
  • Comfortable and hard wearing fins giving a lot of projection through the water
  • Mesh panelled gear bag for drying out and ease of storing.

This set is comfortable and has minimal condensation or steaming up which make it easy to see all of the amazing underwater sights. It is lightweight and the bag means you can just sling it over your shoulder or in the back of the car and get going. If you’re traveling abroad you also don’t have to worry about this taking up a huge amount of your luggage.

Seaview 180° Panoramic Snorkel Mask Review

Time to look at some of the individual pieces of equipment, and this is a really amazing snorkel mask which has changed the way many people look at the hobby. Snorkelling is easier than ever with one of these masks which are also designed to provide maximum visibility (180 degrees).

Features include:

  • Full face  design which makes breathing really simple through both mouth and nose.
  • A go pro mount, get your GoPro on the snorkel so you can record everything you see and make sure the moments from your trip can last forever.
  • The dry technolgoy prevents salt water getting into your mouth.
  • It has an anti fog design so it doesn’t keep fogging up, in fact the design is such that the breathing chamber is separate from the viewing visor and minimizes the risk of any fog whatsoever.
  • Easy to set up and great for youth and beginners who are learning the process of snorkelling and having to breath underwater.
  • Really cool and unique looks! It is pretty cool to look at and certainly provides a talking point.
  • Super easy to adjust and make the fit as perfect and snug as possible.

Since this revolutionary design came onto the market, it has been my go-to when it comes to snorkel masks. The Seaview 180 is a wonderful piece of kit that solves so many problems that we come across when we get started in this hobby. Many beginners are nervous of trying to use a snorkel for the first time but this can take a lot of the anxiety out of the process.

This has become one of the best selling snorkel masks out there, and it is clear to see why. A quick look at the reviews on amazon and elsewhere online shows a lot of the plus points people have discussed with this product, and tales of people using this for their kids, seeing more than ever before when they go snorkelling or scuba diving and having an all around better experience underwater.

Cressi Scuba Diving Snorkeling Freediving Mask Snorkel Set

This set is different to those above in that it has only got the mask and the snorkel included. This is enough for some of us, fins aren’t always essential, or you may already have some from swimming. I had to include Cressi on this list as they truly are one of the best manufacturers of snorkel gear. As a brand, Cressi have been operating since the 1940s and providing underwater equipment.

The mask here is designed to give the most possible field of view from a mask of this type, it is very adjustable and the buckles swivel to maximize your comfort and make sure you can get a fit perfect for your face.

The images of the product show just how compact the set is, coming in its own, very small carry pouch which is great for slinging in a backpack, or into a photography bag if you’re a photographer looking for snorkel equipment.

Designed to fit kids and adults, this is immensely well reviewed with a huge amount of five star reviews on online retailers, everyone who I’ve spoken to who owns something by Cressi tends to be very happy with it, they’re a very good brand and their equipment is well manufactured, meaning you can rely on the quality. Not the cheapest set, especially as it doesn’t have fins included, but it does an excellent job and can be relied on to last a long time.

So there we have it. The best snorkelling equipment reviewed. This is great for those who want to start diving, enjoy the hobby, are photographers or hunters and have a need for this kind of gear. It can be easy to treat this kind of thing as an afterthought and end up with very poor quality equipment which is unlikely to last more than one trip, but the snorkels and peripheral products mentioned above are all a lot more sturdy than that if treated right.

You can rent equipment when you head to these destinations and the beaches or trips where scuba diving is offered, but there are quite a few downsides to this, you never know exactly what you’re going to get or if it is going to fit, be comfortable or be easy to use. If you wait until you are on your trip to buy the snorkel, fins, mask or other gear locally, you may end up with something really cheap and flimsy and lose having the control of being able to look at reviews online and make an informed decision. Over the years, the masks and fins have become much more compact, which means they are easier to transport and one less thing to worry about when you’re on the road.

Choosing the Best Inflatable Boats for Fishing, Rafting and Fun

best inflatable boats marinerInflatable boats. I can’t speak highly enough of them. Having an inflatable boat adds a huge amount of fun to any trip to a river, lake or beach and is amazing whether you’re on your own, going as a couple, out with friends or as a family. The technology behind inflatables has improved greatly in recent years and it means that the best models of inflatable boat on the market are incredibly sturdy. Fears of punctures can be minimized by choosing the best and ensuring that your boat is properly maintained. Of course, you can still go for the cheap option, but there are a lot of boats out there which can only last a few trips and are likely to be punctured and rendered pretty useless if you hit a rock or even just snag the boat on something. We’re not going to be focusing on the ‘cheap and cheerful’ models here and are only wanting to discuss the best inflatable boats whether you’re taking them out for a chill out on the water or you want to use them for fishing.

What Are You Looking For? What Makes a Good Inflatable Boat?

There are of course certain criteria for what quantifies something being quality. Before you purchase one of the models we are going to recommend in our many boat reviews below, you should establish what exactly you are looking for.

  • How many people will be using the boat at a time? Do you need space for four people to go out on your boat or will you be able to make do with something smaller?
  • How hard-wearing it needs to be. What sort of conditions do you plan to take the boat out in, and how sturdy does it need to be to avoid getting damaged?
  • Do I need a boat that can be rowed or does it need a motor to be attached?
  • How often will the inflatable be deflated and put away for storage? How far do you need to take it and does it need to regularly go in your car, SUV or truck on your trips to the coast or to the nearest lake or river?
  • Do I need to use it for fishing? Is there somewhere to put my equipment and does the boat lend itself to the hobby?

So, as you can see there are many different options out there, and already just from looking at those you may have some idea of exactly what you want to get from your boat. The way they are made and how easy they are to inflate and get out on the water are crucial!

Seaming is a very big deal in the world of inflatable boats. Each of the models we’re going to look at will have seams in different places on the boat designed to keep it airtight. Some seams are what we call ‘butted’ and some are ‘overlapped’. They will likely be glued together. Butted seams are generally regarded as the ones on the higher end of the market, both in cost and quality, they’re harder to make but also harder to break.

A double taped, well-made seam is what you need, whether you’re looking for fishing use or just a dinghy to take out for a bit of fun. If you’ve got a boat made of good materials but the seam isn’t put together right, you’ll quickly be in trouble.

Many of these boats will have quite a rigid hull. This is designed to make the structure more sturdy and to make it simple to inflate as only certain areas (the tubes) are being inflated, not the whole boat. The more rigidity it has can make it a bit more difficult to transport as it doesn’t deflate to such a small size, but it is often worth it for ease of use and of course for quality.

Prices of Inflatable Boats

This is a really important, but also really varied area. The price. Inflatable boats don’t really have one set price, and the fact that they are made out of so many different materials and made in such different ways, designed to be used just for a few days or to last decades, the price can vary a huge amount. At the cheap end of the market, you can buy something to fit the basic boating and fun needs for under $50. If you’re looking for something with a more professional edge and you’re wanting to use it for fishing or on a regular basis, you may want to spend a little more. These models can even go up to just under $1000, or even more if you go to the very elite end of the market. Our boat reviews below will explore some options all across the board.

Inflatable Boat Reviews

On to the recommendations and the best models we think are worth considering on the market today. We haven’t mentioned kayaks in this particular article as we have a whole section looking at our recommended kayaks. The brand names below are ones you will likely recognize, and there are some exceptional boats which made the cut, and some decent ones that aren’t mentioned here too as we look for the creme de la creme.

Intex Mariner 4 Inflatable 4 Person Boat

Intex are one of the most prolific brands of manufacturers of inflatables, and one of the best known brands out there in this space. Their Mariner 4 four person boat is one we’ve picked out as worth considering.

This is far from the cheapest boat Intex offer, but in terms of the wider market, this is pretty good value. This is extremely well built and designed for four people, with a capacity for the weight of around 880 lbs sitting on top with no issues, great for a family!

This is an excellent boat for fishing and even comes ready with two holders for fishing rods and plenty of space for the rest of your fishing equipment.

The oar locks and holders make it very easy to row, but this is also designed with capacity for a motor if that is how you want to do things.

This is advertised as a ‘kit’ so it has everything you need to get started including a very easy to use pump and a patching kit should you get any unfortunate cuts or punctures in your boat. The fact of the matter is that this is a very hard-wearing and tough model. It is lined all the way around the outside in order to protect the material should you hit any rocks or scrape the boat on anything else. This model combines the durability we all want with the ease-of-use you expect from something inflatable. You truly can just throw it in the back of an SUV or truck and take it on your trips. Suitable for the whole family, this has an unbelievably high rate of five star reviews on Amazon and other online retailers. Most of the reviews of the Intex Mariner 4 speak so highly about it, and this one is no different as this model comes with our top recommendation.

Intex Explorer 200 and Explorer 300 Review

The cheap end of the market! For those of us just wanting something for a quick mess around and not wanting to spend a lot of money, Intex also offer some real value with their Explorer 200 and 300 models. I’m putting both of them in the same review, as they’re very similar apart from their size, which differs purely based on whether two or three people are going to be using it. the Explorer 200 is suitable for two people, the 300 is suitable for three, but you should also think about how spacious you want it to be and if you’re going to be taking a picnic or fishing gear out on the inflatable boat.

Realistically, this is designed for pools, rivers and lakes, but could be taken out for a quick paddle elsewhere. It is great for kids, and while it is something of a ‘no frills’ model, it offers a few decent features:

  • The floor is inflatable and it provides a lot of comfort as well as staying firm for sitting on.
  • Comes with oar locks and a grab rope holder so you can be dragged around and towed.
  • Has a repair patch if you have any mishaps
  • Weight capacity 210 lb for the 200, 410 lb for the 300, which also comes with 48 inch oars and a pump which makes inflating easy.

If I’m being honest, the Intex Explorer 300 is far superior, even if you do just want two people to go out on it. 210 lb is fine for kids but isn’t a lot of weight capacity for adults if you plan to use this yourself. The quality oars and pump which come with the explorer 300 are worth the extra cash, and the price difference isn’t too much. These are truly cheap inflatable boats when compared to the others on the market, but that doesn’t automatically make them bad, and for many of us they will do a decent job. They’re not going to offer the features of a $500 boat, but they’re good fun.

A few top tips we found from other consumer reviews are that you should always ensure you thoroughly pump it up, when it feels fully pumped, keep going for another 30 seconds just to ensure it is as rigid as can be. Another tip is that if you’re sat on the back it can start to tip a bit, but if you’re taking a fishing box or ice box out with you, you can put this in the front in order to balance it out a bit.

Intex truly offer something for everyone, regardless of budget, and for a fun model which you don’t expect to last too many years, the 200 and 300 models of the Explorer are worth a look.

Newport Vessels Dana Inflatable Dinghy Boat

This really is a beast. If the previous models were the ‘low end’ of the market, this is the high end. Once on the water, it doesn’t look or feel inflatable at all, but the Newport Vessels Dana is a real space saver. It works best, in our opinion, with a motor attached, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use it without as this is down to personal preference.

The price may be off-putting, but it is an impressive Dinghy boat and can be used on the sea, lakes and rivers with very few problems and make your trips out on it feel luxurious. Great for the serious fisherman or hobby rafter.

This is designed for both 15 inch and 20 inch shaft outboards, but is recommended to be used with 15″, it also has the capacity to handle both 2 stroke or 4 stroke motors. The paperwork you need to register it is included with it and the boats are such high quality the manufacturer is willing to give a two year warranty on the Dana.

One of the real USPs of the product is the hard floor, which gives more control when you’re steering as well as a nicer feel when you’re riding the boat. The PVC which is used to make this is high tech, and the risk of punctures is kept to a minimum. A quick look at people reviewing this product elsewhere online or on the consumer reviews on online retailers, will show you everything you need to know about how sturdy and rigid this is.

I have described it as expensive, but truth be told, you can buy inflatable boats which are almost twice the size and not get as many great features, and certainly not such a smooth, easy-to-control ride when you’re on the boat. Hook up a motor and get on your way.

Best Inflatable Fishing Boats

Many of the people who are looking for an inflatable boat are doing so because they want to take it fishing. The truth is, most of the models of inflatable boats are designed with fisherman in mind. While some are better than others, a search for inflatable fishing boats won’t return much that is specific to fishing, instead, the models we’ve mentioned, and many others, have been built with fishing in mind.

You need to think carefully when you’re buying a boat. There are a few choices to make, for instance, do you want something that is super speedy, or are you looking for something that is sturdy and provides a smooth ride. To be honest, I think it is likely that looking for a fishing boat you’re going to want something with a motor in order to keep your hands as free as possible. You want plenty of space to store your fishing gear, and some even come with fishing rod holders which is definitely helpful!

Recommended Model: Bestway Trophy Runner 2 Person

Just from a quick look at this boat you can tell it has fisherman in mind. The camo design is a cool addition, and it looks and feels both comfortable and sturdy. It has rod holders and plenty of space for your fishing equipment. Though designed for two people the weight capacity is over 600 lbs meaning you’re probably got some space to play with to bring everything you could need out on the water.

To be honest, the fact that Intex offer so much in this space, and have such a huge amount of high quality boats and other inflatables, I could’ve reviewed a few more models in this article, and it is likely that you will find many more Intex inflatable boat reviews in the future here on The Water Sporter. The models we’ve mentioned above all have a huge amount of five star reviews and it is very unlikely that should you buy them you’re going to be disappointed.

The benefits of an inflatable boat have always been there. They’re portable, which is great for holidaymakers and people who go on trips regularly, especially those which center around water sports. As the technology driving the boats has improved and the materials used to make them have become a lot tougher, the benefits are even more. They’re great for kids and adults, fishermen and hobbyists, and if you plan to use it regularly, investing in a good quality boat can prove a long term investment.

Inflatable boats are available for up to four, possibly six or maybe even eight people if you’re wanting something to be reliable. We’re going to be looking at other models here on the site such as towable tubes, tow boats and kayaks which are other options, but for something you can attach a motor to, or of course, row yourself along a river or lake, these are great options.

Of course, with all water sports, you need to be cautious and wear a lifejacket. Especially if you’re going into any sort of deep water. Stick to the rules and regulations in your local area and above all, stay safe and respect the water.

The Best Kneeboard Reviews

obrienThe products you can buy for having fun on the water are continuing to grow and grow, and the kneeboard is one of the most exciting products which has started to gain popularity in recent times. In this article, we’re looking at the best kneeboards and individual kneeboard reviews to try and inform you in the world of finding one to purchase and take out on the water! We explore the features and criteria that make a good, reliable and portable model, and look at other factors such as value for money and existing consumer reviews.

What is a Kneeboard?

This is a big question for a lot of people who are new to the idea! What even is a kneeboard?! Well, kneeboards aren’t that new and were originally introduced in the 50s. They’re designed for a form of watersport and are much like a wakeboard or water skis, with the main difference being that you rest on your knees while you use them. They can be great fun for a simple coast along behind a motorboat or being towed by another device, but they can also be used for doing some amazing tricks, and some of the best kneeboarders out there have become exceptionally good at doing flips, tricks and more on the water. They can be used on the water of a lake, out on the ocean (with safety precautions) or on more shallow waters. Of course, precautions should be taken and life jackets worn.

Kneeboards aren’t always a ‘standard’ design and have a few different factors which can alter from model to model including size, length of the tow rope and more, but more on that as we continue to the individual kneeboard reviews below.

The popularity of the products is hardly a surprise considering just how fun they are, the fact that they can easily be used by beginners and you don’t have to go that fast on them. They’re an amazing addition if you love boating and can even be pulled by hand on shallow waters you can wade in. Of course, regulation lifejackets should always be worn.

The Best Kneeboards Reviewed, Features, Size, Brands and More…

Driftsun Kneeboard Review

What a way to have fun out on the sea! The Driftsun kneeboard is one of the best models we’ve found, and is a good option for beginners and experienced users alike. It is extremely highly rated and the brand are one of the best selling in the world of kneeboard products. Their features are pretty impressive:

  • A hook on the front makes it really easy to take off, even if you’re new to the sport.
  • The padding is both durable and comfy, even if you’re using the board for long periods of time.
  • The edge has been designed with a bevel which helps with flexibility and balance on the water, especially if you’re going faster.
  • The strap is very firm but also still comfy, and the board is reliably held in place.
  • One of the most popular models both for beginners and those wanting to do tricks including jumps and flips.

The sturdy nature of this product make it a great choice, and as already mentioned, it doesn’t matter if you’re brand new or you’ve been kneeboarding all of your life. Is it cheap? Not the cheapest. Is it value for money? Yes! The product is pretty widely accepted as being high quality and built well. It is easy to sling in a truck, SUV or even just a normal car and take on trips to a lake or to the beach. Many users have recommended taking a look at YouTube videos explaining how to start kneeboarding to get the technique just right for takeoff, but once you’ve had a go, you’ll be well on your way.

Hydroslide Havoc Review

Hydroslide are probably the most popular kneeboard brand out there, and they’re definitely our favorite, they’ve got a few different models on the market but this is the one which stood out for a review in this summary. That said, all of their models are both well reviewed and reasonably priced, and are options you shouldn’t ignore on your quest to buy a kneeboard. Any one of the Hydroslides could have made this list of the top boards, the Revolution, Magna and more are all really great products by the manufacturer.

Back to the Havoc. We’ve picked it out as the best Hydroslide for a few reasons and the benefits are listed below.

This is a great ride, and all of the manufacturer’s 30 years of experience are evident here. The main things we noticed were the comfort, as the padding and perforated pad for your knees feels pretty good on your legs. This is vital as your knees and legs will be carrying your weight. The kneewells are deep and this means you have a lot of control when you’re on the board, making it easy to go cut through the water. The edges have been rounded to also aid the performance over the water. The hook and padded belt help with the starts and of course the added benefits are that it comes with handle, rope and carry bag to help get you started and make you comfortable on the board.

A 52 inch, easy to use and relatively comfortable board, this represents good value for money and can often be found for under $200. The brand is definitely one you can trust, hence their domination of the market.

It is worth mentioning the best junior kneeboard out there too as you may well be looking for a model for a kid to use. The Hydroslide junior Cyclone is a 43 inch model and is very flexible, great for use by the younger generation!

This has a lot of padding making it comfy even for children and teenagers to use and people with kids of all different ages have reported it being easy for them to get started with. Beginners will find this an agreeable kneeboard and if you want to get them started young, be sure to consider it.

O’Brien Voodoo Kneeboard Review

So I’ve saved the very best for last. The O’Brien Voodoo is my favorite board for a few different reasons. It is a little more expensive, but still comes at a pretty reasonable price, especially when compared to a lot of the top watersport products. The Voodoo has a hard edge but still provides a relatively simple ride making it good for all different ability levels. The four fins on the bottom make it a lot more easy to transition and control, meaning this is probably the most control you’re likely to get. It is padded for comfort like most of the products we’ve talked about here, and the straps also have pads whilst staying firm to lock you in.

O’Brien Voodoo reviews have talked a lot about what a great, professionally built product this is. At the time of writing, the vast majority of the reviews we can find online have rated this 5 stars. It comes with a hook which makes it easier to use, especially for newcomers. Reports and reviews on Amazon have discussed this product being used both by adults and younger people as they get started on the water. The comfort has also been a regular theme when talking about this, something it is hard to get right on a product which is so reliant on putting pressure on the knees, but this achieves it. It can still be picked up for under $200 at times which certainly isn’t bad for all those features.

Of course, budget plays a part here. Truth be told there isn’t a ‘cheap’ alternative as such, but the products in themselves are far from the most pricey watersport boards. It can provide a nice addition to boating holidays and fun for all the family! The two real powerhouse brands of O’Brien and Hydroslide provide exceptional ranges and buying any of their products is likely to serve you pretty well. You can, with the right kneeboard for you, start out as a beginner and learn how to do all the tricks and skills in the book, some of which are included in this awesome video, showing some of the basic (and less basic) ways you can use a kneeboard.

Exploring the Best Ocean Kayaks for Fun and Fishing

kayakMany of us love to explore the sea, and more of us are doing so in an ocean kayak which can be used for either fishing or of course just paddling on the water and having fun. The sea obviously needs to be respected and there are a lot of health and safety regulations before you take to the water. Certain ocean kayaks are better than others, some come recommended for fishing, some don’t. It is important to know what you’re buying and what is the best sea kayak for your money before you purchase one and take the plunge.

There are certain features you should be looking for when buying one. We’ve put together some reviews below in order to help you find the top models, but it is important to be as educated as possible going into the process.

Going out onto the sea is amazing for so many reasons, the cool breeze can feel amazing and the thrill of the wind in your hair can be enthralling. If you are lucky enough to be visiting or living near somewhere that there is a tropical or just beautiful ocean, a kayak may well be something you want to invest in.

If you’re into sea fishing, the kayak offers a few advantages, of course if you have a kayak for ocean fishing you can move around and fish in areas up and down the coastline which you may not have otherwise been able to reach.

It is important to be experienced taking to the water and comfortable with a kayak, so make sure you’ve spent some time in it, perhaps even on a smaller body of water before you go out on the sea. It is also vital that you take the time to learn to use your kayak properly and that it is instructed correctly, and you respect the sea and of course any local rules. This excellent guide is good for introducing you to using it.

How Much is an Ocean Kayak?

This is a bit of a misleading question, of course there are many options and of course they’re at different price points, so the budget you are on is going to inform which model of kayak you’re likely to buy. In general, the old saying ‘you get what you pay for’ is definitely relevant, but there are some cheaper options which can do a good job for you and you don’t necessarily have to get the most expensive. Most of the models out there are under $1000, but if you’re looking to go as cheap as under $100, you’re likely going to struggle greatly to find anything of real quality.

Ocean Fishing Kayak Choices:

Inflatable vs Non-Inflatable. This is a choice which it is important to make, it is a little cheaper to go to the inflatable end of the market, and of course helps a lot with portability, but then there is of course the construction. A lot of the inflatable fishing kayaks are really sturdy, so it may be a viable option.

One person vs Tandem. Choose the amount of seats required! I don’t like to go out alone but you can of course take multiple kayaks if you need to. Tandem fishing kayaks can provide a great way to head out on the water as a duo and keep each other company while fishing or just exploring.

Sun Dolphin Journey 10-Foot Sit-on-top Kayak

We’re starting with one of the better selling models of fishing kayak. It is a very sturdy model of kayak and though not inflatable, and a little tough to transport if this is something you need to do, it is a great option. This kayak is easy for those who aren’t the most experienced and is very forgiving when it comes to paddling. What I also love about it is the open cockpit, getting in and out is simple even if you’re a bigger person, and you don’t feel claustrophobic when you’re in it, and it is great for fishing where you need a little freedom of movement.

The dry storage compartment is great for putting things in which you need to keep safe, and the adjustable foot mounts are great for your comfort. Overall, an excellent option if you’ve got an SUV to lug it around in or can keep it relatively close to where you’ll be using it. I wouldn’t recommend taking it too far from the shore and of course you need to be safe at all times.

Intex Explorer K2 Kayak Review – Two Person Inflatable Kayak

We’re looking at the Intex Explorer as more of a cheap option for a kayak, and of course an inflatable and more easily portable model. This is great for people on a budget, and comes with everything you need including some sturdy aluminium paddles to use. Again, it isn’t going to be the best kayak in the world at the price point, but it is more than adequate for what most of us need and it is great for taking on trips with you.

As well as being used in the ocean (close to the shore I would recommend) it can be used in lakes and everywhere else where kayaking and watersports are popular. You need to be more careful with an inflatable, naturally it is less hard-wearing.

These are best for lakes and other small bodies of water and you should always be aware of the weather also when taking it out, but if you’re on a budget when trying to find your kayak, this might be an option for you.

Ocean Kayak Frenzy Sit-on-Top Kayak Review

The Ocean Kayak brand has become one of the most popular on the market, especially for using in the sea, hence the name! This is a one person kayak and you can sit on top of it, it is 9 foot long and can be stored on the top of a car or in the back of a truck or SUV. This is a little more expensive, but if you’re looking for a one person kayak then this is possibly the best you can buy.

It is relatively lightweight at just over 40lbs, but can handle the capacity of up to 325 lbs for somebody riding on top. It has enough mobility for fishing and of course is great just for recreational kayaking!

The design has come with a padded seat, and trust me if you spend any length of time in it you’re likely to be thankful for having a cushioned, padded seat to spend your time on. It is available in a few different colors and has been very highly regarded among those who have purchased.

A quick look on the consumer reviews on Amazon and other sites will show you just what people think of this. At the time of writing the vast majority of reviews are five star, showing what people have thought after taking this out of the water. It can pretty comfortably be used on loads of different types of water and is very sturdy and hard-wearing, especially when you consider how lightweight it is. The bright design colors improve the visibility, and some have even said they’ve taken it surfing on waves, which shows how good the control is.

Knowing the Safety Protocol

If you’ve never gone over in a kayak, you need to experience this. The safety practice when you’re in a kayak which overturns is as follows:

  • Lean forwards
  • Use the paddle you’re holding to push off from the kayak.
  • Release the affixation which holds you to the kayak so that you’re not tethered, this is called the ‘skirt’
  • Ensure it’s been totally removed and then push yourself away from the boat. You can of course go back to it later but your safety is the most important thing when you’re in open water.

There are a lot of different models on the market and it is vital that you take a little time to consider both where you’re going to be using it, whether you need space for one or two people, and how much you’re willing to spend, as well as the ocean kayak brands available.

The above models of kayak won’t see you far wrong, and as long as you abide by what people advise locally, and stick to the rules whilst staying sensible, you’re likely to have a great time on the sea.

Finding The Best Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP’s) – Reviews and Info

inflatable supWe’re looking at the best inflatable stand up paddle boards today, offering full reviews of the top models on the market today and looking at some of the vital aspects of a reliable, good quality SUP. We’ve got information and comparisons based on their stability, how they perform on the water, size and ease of transporting and how easy they are to inflate and get up and running, which is truly vital when it comes to the inflatable models. Finding the best model for your own needs will require you to consider first what you are looking for and which combination of these features is the most important for you.

What to Look for in the Best Inflatable SUPs

The whole point in many peoples opinion is that these types of paddleboard are easy to get around. The chances are you want something that it is really easy to chuck in the back of a car and take to the beach or lake, not something that you’ve got to lug around with difficulty. This should be super simple, and the best paddleboards even come with cases and backpacks which make it really easy to get from A to B.

Many of the models you can roll up, which of course saves a huge amount of space, and some have different bits you can take off, which can be great for saving space, but can be a pain to actually do. It isn’t just how portable they are, but how easy they are to transport that we’re looking at.

Ease of Inflation

Of course, inflation is pretty important here. There are a few different aspects to look at including the connector to the pump, whether it comes with the pump as most of them do, and how reliably the models stay inflated. Some of the models can be quite slow to inflate, and the best features include a fast inflation so you can just quickly get your SUP out and get going. Instructions on exactly how to inflate vary from model to model, and some even come with a video showing the process.

Glide Performance

The glide performance is something that is compromised with the inflatable models of paddleboard as opposed to those which aren’t inflatable, but naturally some are better than others. We’ve taken a look at how well they glide and included them in our product reviews. A good quality glide is essential for many reasons, but most of all it is needed for being able to cope with choppy waters or windy conditions, and in certain countries, and most places you’ll want to take your paddle board, you’re going to need something that can glide well.

These products aren’t cheap, and though they’re generally very well made, some offer more value than others. Some of the best value models aren’t necessarily the cheapest, but the best quality and those which are likely to last longer. Value for money is a combination of features and price.

The Paddle

Of course this is totally vital! Each paddle board will likely come with the paddle, and it needs to be good quality. A paddle board is pretty useless if you’re using it with a plank of wood, and a high-tech, reliable paddle will vastly improve your experience. They’re pretty heavy but they are also very durable and made to adjust to your height and needs. At the higher end of the market you can also find paddles made of carbon fiber which are exceptionally good quality and lightweight, but they’re going to set you back a bit, so it depends on what your budget is and how cheap you want to get your paddle board setup.

Tower Paddle Boards Adventurer Inflatable SUP

Undeniably, this is one of the top Stand up paddle boards on the market with a huge amount of sales. It isn’t the most expensive, and offers good value for money, and a quick look at the reviews out there on Amazon and elsewhere show what people think of this product, with many 5 star reviews.

Tower are one of the most well known companies in this space, and gained a huge amount of popularity when they appeared on Shark Tank and gained investment from Mark Cuban.

Starting with possibly the most impressive aspect of this, it is extremely rigid considering it is an inflatable. The product description shows that it is durable enough for someone to run over and even shows pictures of a car resting on top of it, not even compromising the board.

In spite of being so tough and durable, it is also easy to store and carry and even fits under some peoples arm. It can be slung in the back of a car and taken for a day out without any great difficulty. The inflation time is just a few minutes so it is really easy to turn from folded up and small to big, rigid and ready to use. Of course, another excellent advantage of it becoming so small when not in use is for going on the plane and taking it on holiday with you, and can save you the expense of renting a board when you’re away.

The weight limit of 350 lbs means that larger users can get away with using the paddle board, but also that often you can take a passenger or get a couple of people on there!

The Tower Adventurer is really stable and glides very well making it a good option for beginners and people of all different skill levels, so you can get going straight away even if you’re pretty new to the sport. It is also sold as a package so you don’t need to worry about buying anything extra if you don’t want to, you get the pump with it as well as the paddle of course, so it is very much a package deal.

Solstice Bali Stand-Up Paddleboard Review

I wanted to include a more affordable SUP in this list, which still holds its own in the world of paddle boarding. In general these aren’t a low ticket price item, but relatively speaking, this is possibly the best ‘cheap’ inflatable SUP that is currently on the market, with the reviews to back it up. Of course, if you spend a little less money, the chances are the end product will have some form of compromise, but this is still a very good product.

The kit comes with everything you need to get started, the board itself, a pressure gauge and of course the pump to get you inflated and on the water. One more real positive is the carry bag which comes included with the package and makes it super easy and portable to take from A to B.

The Solstice Bali takes just a few minutes to pump up to its full rigid state and it is impressively solid. Of course it has its limits but users weighing over 220 lbs have reported that it supports their weight with relative ease. It isn’t as stable as some of the more expensive models out there, but that is to be expected. Sometimes it can feel as if the middle area of the board is starting to go a bit flat on some models, but that isn’t the case here and it stays firm even after long periods of use. You’ll forget that it is inflatable!

The one word of warning I’ve seen from consumers is to ensure that the fins are properly attached and do not end up falling off and causing you a lot of issues down the line. Check that they’re firm and that you’ve followed the instructions when you attach them!

The reviews for this product are extremely high and the Solstice Bali ISUP is a great budget model! We definitely think it is a decent place to get started if you just want to buy a board that is a bit of fun and to play around on the water for the first time, but don’t want to spend thousands. This is arguably the best inflatable stand up paddle board for under $500, making it a good choice for those of us watching the pennies.

iRocker 11′ Infatable Paddle Boards Reviewed

iRocker is a product which is comparable to the Tower model in terms of price, and the two are hard to split in terms of quality, but the iRocker is a truly impressive range, offering 10′ and 11′ inflatable SUPs among other boards among their brand, which is growing hugely in the world of watersports and outdoor activities!

The iRocker is probably the best inflatable paddle board in our opinion, for a few reasons:

  • It can handle up to 385 lbs on top of the board, meaning that on many occasions it can carry two people on top. They’re definitely long enough to do so, you can take it in terms with your partner to paddle and to chill!
  • The product listing claims military grade durability, which is quite impressive. In their own words, you can run it right into the rocks or even run it over with a vehicle and the SUP will likely be absolutely fine afterwards. All this from a model which can deflate and happily sit in the back of your car or truck without taking up a lot of space.
  • This is a full kit, so you won’t have to buy anything separately, and all of the different aspects; carry case, paddle, the board itself and the pump, are all made with excellent care and exceptional quality.
  • The paddle is adjustable, so it allows us to change the length to suit your own height or personal preferences, it is easy to change between lengths and is durable and long-lasting at any length.

This is the top inflatable board we’ve had the pleasure of using, but you don’t have to take our word for it, the reviews on Amazon are truly exceptional, as people have discussed their own experiences with the paddle board. Most of the reviews have talked about how remarkably solid this is for an inflatable model, and the manufacturers have clearly thought a lot about making this durable. Many have described their long-term use of the product and the fact that it doesn’t seem to wear or get worse with age in any way, shape or form, which is really what we all want from a product like this. The two year manufacturer warranty shows just how well built the iRocker boards are.

Choosing an Inflatable SUP for Your Needs

The above listings and reviews are there to steer you in the right direction (no pun intended) but you need to consider your own needs, including how much use you intend to get out of it, the kind of conditions you’ll be using your board in, how long you need it to last and what sort of budget and price range you’re looking at. Spending a little more can really pay off in the long run and ensure that quality doesn’t become an issue. Paddleboards don’t tend to be a small investment for most of us, so you want to know that you’re buying the best inflatable SUP you can.

Inflatable Paddle Board Accessories

As already mentioned, a lot of these come in packs which include everything you need to get started, but that isn’t the be all and end all, you may want to purchase more accessories. SUPs aren’t something you can buy alone, and you need some more kit to get up and running.

  1. Life Jackets – this is not optional! You need to be safe and respect the water you’re on, however deep or shallow, wearing a life jacket is essential. Fortunately, they don’t cost a lot of money, especially compared to the expense of some of the other accessories.
  2. The Paddle – this is an interesting area, some paddles are a lot better than others as some are adjustable and some aren’t, plus they’re often made of different materials which can affect the way they’re used and how effective they can be.
  3. Pumps – this is essential too, and while most come with pumps, it is important to pay attention to what they are like and how they can perform. The PSI settings of the paddle boards will all be different and you need something that can reliably reach and gauge this.

The three brands mentioned are all very good options, and the inflatable stand up paddleboard reviews should show you that they’re all viable options for both beginners and more experienced paddleboarders.

In the grand scheme of things, this is a relatively new concept and is growing all the time as more and more people take to the water, whether it is a tropical sea or a local lake.
